Delphi
History
People around the
world always sensed a mystical attraction for Delphi.
The myth has it in
this particular area, the ancient Greek deity Mother Earth, communicated with the
mortals. It is said that she chose only women as her high priestess in order to
be the medium for communication.
In the ancient
times, it was thought to be the naval (center) of the earth and it is apparent
that this location has a distinct energy that one can sense even today.
But what was the
significance of Delphi that made all the Kings of Greece cling on every word uttered
by the Delphi precursors? Well, in ancient Greece, whether there was a time of
Piece or war, Kings always wanted the Olympian gods by their side and since the
Delphi Oracle was in direct communication with the divine, they always seek
approval or guidance from Apollo’s Precursors. The influence of Delphi Oracle
dates back 1700 years before the birth of Christ. For millennia, this place of the
world was the undisputed unrivalled center of Prophecy. The fate of the state
affairs or any other significant decision had to be addressed to the Delphi
oracle for guidance before any decision was taken.
So, the Greek Kingdoms dependance on Apollo’s Oracle, created a powerful influence which generated extreme wealth and prosperity for Delphi. Over time, Delphi’s role changed from a Religious hub to a Cultural and Political force, finally becoming the center of the ancient Greek world!
